Where is Westport? Are We There Yet? How Much Longer?
6/6/25
For many of our guests most travel a minimum of an hour to get to Westport. Some have children with them. This is for you who have the kids asking, “Are we there yet?” and “How much longer?”. There is only so many times you can say “a little while longer” or “we are getting really close”.
In a world where our electronics are practically glued to our hands the car is one of the best places to connect with your children. Traveling to the ocean there are usually spots where you may not get the best service anyhow. Here are some games you can play in the car with your kids to pass the time. Some are classics but maybe there are a few you haven’t heard of.
- I Spy
This is probably one of the most popular car games. The first player chooses something that everyone can see. They then say “I spy with my little eye something (blue)” (pick a clue here). This continues until someone guesses the correct object and then it’s their turn to “Spy”.
- The Name Game
For this game you will need to decide on a category, such as names of people, animals, cities, TV shows, foods, basically anything of interest. Let’s say that the category is cities. The first player names a city. Let’s say “Westport.” The next player must name another city that starts with the last letter of the previous city. In this case, it would be “T” which could be for “Tumwater.” The next participant needs to name a city that starts with “R,” as in “Renton” and so on.
- Name That Tune
One player hums or whistles a tune, and the others try and guess the song.
- License Plate Game
For this one everyone searches for license plates that are from out of state. The first person to spot it gets a point. The most points win.
- 20 Questions
One player picks an object or animal, and the other people in the car can ask 20 questions that can be answered with a “yes” or “no” only. The first person to guess what the player was thinking of gets to go next or gets a point.
- The Movie Game
First player picks a movie. The second player names an actor, it continues on until someone is wrong, or they are unable to come up with a name. The person that fails to come up with a proper name will need to sit out the next round.
I hope this list helps encourage communication and stimulates the young minds in your car. Games in the care will enhance cognitive skills such as memory, problem solving and can expand vocabulary. Family bonding, cooperation and teamwork are skills children need to succeed in life. What better time to do it than when sitting in a car. It’s a great way to start any vacation and take a break from electronic devices. Cheers to car games!
We invite you to stay at one of our sister hotels. Ask about rooms with a view.
